One very special event at the season’s end in the tropical zone of the L&CPU is the “Five Towns” Monochrome print competition where Alsager CC, Crewe PS, Nantwich CC, Sandbach PS and MCPF club Whitchurch PS do battle for the Alan Challinor Trophy. Outwardly it may seem to be a light-hearted-end-of-term jolly but this belies the fact that each club will have carefully honed each precious one of its submissions and is taking it all very, very seriously, eagerly Anticipating victory. This year Diana Magor innocently accepted the poisoned chalice of judging the competition. She aquitted herself very well indeed with a lively commentary about each precious offering, she was even brave enough to give quite a range of marks!
In the end it was a victory for Alsager CC, our first in this competition. John Royle quoted “Suddenly they all appeared to be 6inches taller and all the other club members began to worry about their chances against them in the “ordinary” club battles next year.”
Alsager’s Jon Blackburn gained best print with “Merciless Sea” (L). On the right Darrell Oakden accepts the Best Print trophy from Diana on behalf of Jon, before also receiving that big, shiny trophy for Alsager CC.
