Today seven of us attended the L&CPU Big Day. We all had a thoroughly superb day with a wide variety of excellent speakers:
- Sean Conboy: Professional Architecture Photographer: www.photo-genics.com
- Colin Prior: Professional Landscape Photographer: www.colinprior.co.uk
- Steve Race: Renowned Wildlife Photographer: www.steverace.com
- Margaret Salisbury: RPS Documentary Visual Journalism Photographer of the year
The day began with Sean talking to us about his many architectural projects for high profile clients from all around to the world. We got some great insights into the life of a professional photographer accompanied by a wonderful selection of images. Particularly memorable were his images of a Dubai hotel, as part of an advertising campaign for Hasselblad.
Our second speaker, Steve Race, brought us back to the UK with his wildlife images taken mainly on the Yorkshire Coast. Throughout his lecture he made it very clear that with hard work and dedication superb images can be achieved not very far from home.
Following lunch, Margaret gave a very heart felt and moving lecture describing her views on taking pictures of people. Her striking images of people from around the world were narrated with tales of their lives and plights. Many audience members finished the lecture with tears in their eyes (I certainly did).
The afternoon concluded with Colin Prior showing us his stunning landscape shots from Scotland and around the world. His talk included many outstanding images, one of which included the tent he had stayed in (clung to the top a mountain) to enable him to be in the perfect place to get the best light at sunrise.
All of the four speakers were very entertaining and inspirational. On behalf of Alsager Camera Club I would like to thank the four speakers and the L&CPU for organising this great event. We are already looking forward to next year.
Hear, hear!
